Heritage teaching resources
Bryony Halsted has a background in archaeological illustration, having worked at the University of Birmingham as an archaeological illustrator for a number of years. Drawing mammoths can be more exciting than purely depicting pot sherds however she has always enjoyed the excitement of getting close to a truly archaic artefact! This particular example shows how Worcestershire Ice Age Project commissioned bespoke illustrated pdf templates to present their KS2 teaching resources. Specifically, the project introduces the topic of animals of the Ice Age, which have been found in Worcestershire, UK.
Making learning fun…
Understanding layers is integral when thinking about the past. The Worcestershire Ice Age project needed a fun worksheet to explain this to younger children. We designed this colouring worksheet to present the information in an engaging way. Click the link below to see the full image.
Wildlife Spotter’s Sheets
Having a passion for accurate and detailed drawings of natural forms Bryony created these nature spotter’s sheets. These are currently available to license.
Nature & Wildlife signboards
At local sites in Staffordshire, Bryony has created wildlife sign boards to share key information with the public. Signs were commissioned by the local Parish Council for nature reserves in the village of Yoxall, to show the native flora and fauna identified by Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. In order to fit as much visual information onto the signs as possible, Bryony designed the background to include many of the native tree leaves for identification purposes. This left more room to accommodate full colour illustrations of tree fruits, flowers and birds such as kingfishers and yellow hammers.
